Book week

This week was Book Week and at the end of the week we had to dress up as a book character. I dressed up as Frank from Bad Dad (like on the photo). Also throughout the week we could go in the library and try and find the ticket hiding in one of the pages in one of more than 8,000 books!

Assembly

This week for assembly we (T1) are running it. At assembly we are going to share some of our work that wen have been doing throughout the term like Pharaoh and Picasso art, some report writing and more. I am going to share a paragraph from my Sydney writing.

The Sydney Opera House is a performing arts centre that lies on the south side of the harbour next to the harbour bridge. The predicted cost for the Sydney Opera House was 7 million but the actual cost turned out to be 102 million, a huge difference from what they expected. The Sydney Opera House can hold up to 5,738 people in the seats. You might be wondering why the Sydney Opera House is the shape it is, well, it was designed by the Danish architect Jorn Utzon, however I do not know why he made it that shape. Those were some facts about one of Sydney's biggest attractions.

Prototec Wk10

This week we had to complete some more prototec maths tasks and I did well this week because I got 100% on all of my tasks.

The Sydney Opera House

This week for report writing we had to choose between the Sydney Opera House or sharks and I have chosen the Sydney Opera House. There we had to start with a middle paragraph and then the other two paragraphs and then the introduction and the conclusion, a different way to do it but we did it anyway.

Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is quite a big building with a very sleek design to it, and not only that, there have been some big names in there as well as a big time to make it with a lot of workers.

The Sydney Opera House was built to, in the words of Joseph Cahill, ‘help mould a better and more enlightened community’. It has definitely enlightened the Sydney community because the Opera House has had some big names like the Foo Fighters in 2006 and Tame Impala in 2011 and again in 2015. According to Google, around eight million people have visited the Sydney Opera House in it’s 61 year history.

The Sydney Opera House is such an eye-catching shape that surely it would take a while to build right? Well, it was expected to take just four years to build, but in reality it took another ten years to finish with a total time of fourteen years. Of course with such a big big structure it needed a lot of workers to help build, well that is the case with the Opera House because it needed a total of 10,000 workers! Although with so many workers there would have to be a couple deaths and in the Opera House’s situation there were sixteen unfortunate deaths.

In conclusion the Sydney Opera House is definitely a recognisable structure and it has had quite a history.

Prototec

This week like all the other weeks we had to complete some prototec tasks. Once we complete our prototec tasks we take a screenshot of the certificate and put it in a google drawing.

Argentina Report

This week we had to write a report about an animal or a country and before you think I have already done this about dogs we had to do it last week and this week. This week my report was about Argentina.

Argentina

Argentina is a country in South America, it is quite large sitting at 2.78 million ㎢ and a population of 44.49 million. Argentina’s main sport is football, but along with football there are a whole lot of other things that Argentinians like to do.

Did you know that organised football in Argentina has been running since 1867! One of the best players in the world is Argentine, Lionel Messi. He has earned a total of 34 trophies, these include ten La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League titles and five Ballon d’or awards. Messi has been playing for the same club his whole life, Barcelona. He started his career when he was thirteen back when he just started playing in the U14’s for Newell’s Old Boys in 1995 and he played for them for another five years.

One of the other things Argentines like to do is dancing, specifically the Tango. The Tango originated in Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, in the 1880’s. The Tango is a dance that involves a lot of smooth and sharp movements and also long strides which means you need to be physically ready to be able to learn the Tango. The Tango came from the candombe ceremonies of the african slaves.

In Argentina there are also a lot of different foods to try. Some of these include: Empanadas, Dulce de leche and Chimichurri, these foods can probably be found in other places, it's just native to Argentina. According to Google, Asados are the most popular food in Argentina. Argentina's cuisine looks good to me!

Argentina is quite an interesting place with all of their different foods, I didn’t even know that the Tango originated in Argentina. I think that Argentina would be a great place for anyone to visit!

Mars Comprehension Task

This week for the comprehension task we had to answer some questions about Mars! There isn't much else to say about it so I'll leave you with the link.

Dogs Writing

This week for reports writing we had to choose an animal or a country, I chose dog breeds and abilities. This type of writing was just an informative piece of writing with a few paragraphs, nothing different.

Dogs

Dogs are a great pet to have, they are very loving animals and science has shown that they are more loving than cats. Dogs are quite common animals to have as pets because they... wait I’m getting too far into this let’s get to the cool things about some breeds of dogs.

For example, the cool thing about Bloodhounds is that they are the dog breed with the best smelling ability, so good in fact it can be used as evidence in a court of law! Following the bloodhound, there is the Basset hound and the Beagle. The dog breeds with the best hearing are, first of all, the Poodle then the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever. Those are just some of the cool abilities dogs have.

Now, if you have a dog you have probably said “We’ve got the best dog in the world” and I’m not going to stop you from believing that because everyone has their own taste, however, the most popular dog breed from 2014 - 2018 is the Labrador Retriever as there is around 35 thousand of them according to the Dog Blog. There is one dog breed that is quite different from others and that is the Newfoundland dog breed. The things that make them different from the others is, firstly their webbed feet to help them through the water, also another thing to help them in the water is their water resistant coat which has two layers, the outer coat is coarse and long and the undercoat is soft and dense.

There are also some cool things that are the same throughout all dog breeds like; their wet nose, now they have a wet nose because it helps them absorb scent chemicals and then once the scents are absorbed they lick their nose to help them understand the smell more, isn’t that smart! Now this next one isn’t so much about the dogs but it’s quite cool. In an interview in 2013, Paul McCartney said that at the end of the Beatles song ‘A day in the life’ they added a frequency that only dogs can hear which I think is quite cool.

Well, now you know your dogs are not just pets, they are quite smart animals who know what they are doing!

Prototec

Every week for maths we have to do one Prototec task a day, we choose the level of maths that we are up to and it gives us a sheet worth of equations to solve. Here are my Prototec certificates for this week.

(if you can't see the fineprint the score percentages are: 100, 95, 97, 97, 95)

Maths Maintenance

This week, like every other week, we had to do maths maintenance, which, if you didn't know, is just a series of maths questions each day Monday through Thursday. Here is the link for my maths maintenance.
