Reflections, Term 4, 2016

Hello this is the last week of term and I am going to talk about my highlights of the year.

my best time of the year was doing art because I really like doing arty things.

For the hole year I am most proud of my chapter chat activities because It was a new thing that I have never done before.

I want to continue on art next year because it is a fun activity that I like doing.

Numeracy, Reflections, Term 4, Week 8

For the last few weeks we have been doing problem solving. This is one of the activities that we did. my favorite part was measuring the rods. I am most proud of measuring part because I like measuring. Next time I will describe more

chapter chat Reflections Term 4 Week 7

This week we were told to do a book review on the person controller. This was done on google drawing. we had to use 3 different fonts and 1 image and a summary. I most liked the writing part of this. I am most proud of the summary. 

Numeracy Reflections Term 4 Week 6

This week I have done a Pattern drawing of triangles, circles and squares. the purpose of this is to make it look good basically. I did this on paper. My favorite part is the circles. Next time I could make it different colors.

This week I have done a chapter chat activity and this was one of them. The purpose of this is to make a football trophy. This was done on a google drawing. I am most proud of the design. Next time I will make it a bit fancier. 

Literacy Reflections Term 4 Week 5

This week we have been writing about what we think about Donald Trump being elected. I did this on a google doc.  I think I could put more sentences about Donald Trump.

This week I have been describing and drawing my mythical Dragon. This was done on a piece of paper. I am most proud of the Dragon. Obviously my favorite part was drawing the dragon. Next time I am going to do more research.

This week for chapter chat I drew the person controller and bracelet. I did this on a google drawing. My favorite part is the person controller because it was fun making the shapes. Next time maybe I could put in a better background.

This week we have been learning about co-ordinates. This is a google slide about co-ordinates that me and my group has done. I am most proud of the 4th slide because it has a link to an activity that took me 2 hours to do.

This week we have been working on word work. For word work this week I chose to do rainbow writing.I did this on a google drawing. I am most proud of my rainbow writing because it took the most time and effort. I might need to work on putting some more colors.

This week we finished our chapter chat story but chapter chat is still on so we did our DLO on our book. We had to write the author (Judy Blume), 3 things that we liked and age recommendation. I have used google drawings. I am most proud of the background colors. Might need to work on writing more things.

The last few weeks we have been doing chapter chat. There are activity's for each week and this week I have chosen to draw Fudge without any teeth. The purpose of this is to celebrate our learning. I am most proud of  the bit were he is cutting his hair. I drew this picture with a piece of paper.

Hello today I am sharing an activity on chapter chat My Juicy-o. It is a juicy drink that has all the main sort of fruit in it. the purpose of this is to do a chapter chat activity. I am proud of using magisto. magisto is a thing were you chose a soundtrack, pictures and a title and you have made a movie.

Why People Explore By Rhys

Maybe people explore to find out new things or caves or dormant volcanoes.

Maybe people explore because it's a fun thing to do and just something to do.

Or maybe people explore for their job or for lots and lots of money

People might explore to find history or to find  jewels or diamonds or fossils and lots of cool things.

This week we have been focusing on why people explore. This is a summary of why people explore. The purpose of this activity is to find out why people explore. I have used a google doc and bubble us. I am most proud of using bubble us to brainstorm because I have never used it before. I need to work on putting more writing in.

Age of Exploration

The Age of Exploration (also called the Age of Discovery) began in the 1400s and continued through the 1600s. It was a period of time when the European nations began exploring the world. They discovered new routes to India, much of the Far East, and the Americas. The Age of Exploration took place at the same time as the Renaissance.

Why explore?

Outfitting an expedition could be expensive and risky. Many ships never returned. So why did the Europeans want to explore? The simple answer is money. Although, some individual explorers wanted to gain fame or experience adventure, the main purpose of an expedition was to make money.

How did expeditions make money?

Expeditions made money primarily by discovering new trade routes for their nations. When the Ottoman Empire captured Constantinople in 1453, many existing trade routes to India and China were shut down. These trade routes were very valuable as they brought in expensive products such as spices and silk. New expeditions tried to discover oceangoing routes to India and the Far East. Some expeditions became rich by discovering gold and silver, such as the expeditions of the Spanish to the Americas. They also found new land where colonies could be established and crops such as sugar, cotton, and tobacco could be grown.

Henry the Navigator

The Age of Exploration began in the nation of Portugal under the leadership of Henry the Navigator. Henry sent out ships to map and explore the west coast of Africa. They went further south than any previous European expedition and mapped much of western Africa for the Portuguese. In 1488, Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias was the first European to sail around the southern tip of Africa and into the Indian Ocean.

Christopher Columbus

Soon the Spanish wanted to find a trade route to the Far East. Explorer Christopher Columbus thought that he could sail west, across the Atlantic Ocean, to China. He could not get the Portuguese to fund his expedition, so he went to the Spanish. Spanish monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand agreed to pay for Columbus' trip. In 1492 Columbus discovered the New World of the Americas.

Portugal and Spain

Portugal and Spain became the early leaders in the Age of Exploration. Through the Treaty of Tordesillas the two countries agreed to divide up the New World. Spain got most of the Americas while Portugal got Brazil, India, and Asia. Spain sent over conquistadors to explore the Americas and to conquer the peoples there. Hernan Cortes conquered the Aztec Empire in Mexico and Francisco Pizarro conquered the Inca Empire in Peru. They made Spain rich with the gold and silver they found in the Americas. Portugal sent out Vasco da Gama who found a trade route around the southern tip of Africa and to India. They also explored much of the Far East and were the first Europeans to establish a trading colony in China at Macau.

Colonies

Other countries such as Great Britain and the Netherlands established colonies in the New World. Eventually Great Britain would overtake all of the European nations in terms of the size of their world wide empire including the thirteen colonies in the Americas that later became the United States.

Geography

The Age of Exploration was one of the most important times in the history of world geography. A large portion of the unknown world was mapped during this short period. Also, many advances were made in navigation and mapping which helped future explorers and travelers.

Interesting Facts about the Age of Exploration

• During the Age of Exploration Europeans referred to the entire area of Southeast Asia and India as the "East Indies".
• The first expedition to circle the globe was led by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Unfortunately, Magellan was killed during the expedition and did not complete the voyage.
• Some areas of the world were not fully mapped or discovered until well after the Age of Exploration including Eastern Australia, the interior of Africa, the Arctic, and the Antarctic.
• Many explorers such as Captain James Cook and Sir Francis Drake searched for a Northwest Passage to East Asia, but it wasn't until 1906 that explorer Roald Amundsen completed the journey.

This week we have been focusing on why people explore. This is a highlighting activity, the time periods in blue, problems in red, positives in green, why people explore in yellow. I used a google doc. I am most proud of the brainstorm at the top. I think I need to work on getting a bit more on the brainstorm.

Numeracy reflection term 3 week 6

I AM SO EXITED THIS IS MY FIRST EVER SCREEN CASTIFY !!! This is my numeracy activity you can see it yourself. I am doing this activity so I can get better at counting. I have used screen castify for this activity. I am most proud of doing this myself. maybe next time I could put speaker on.

Writing Reflections Week 6 Term 3

This activity that I am sharing today is my writing follow-up. We had to make an explanation of a frog's life cycle. I have used google slides for this activity. I am most proud of slide 6 because it took the most effort and time. Something I might need to work on is adding more writing to some slides.

Reflections Week 6 Term 3

This is the ducks explorer reasons why people explore. Me Stanley and Honor made it. You can read our reasons. I really liked making the reasons because they were fun and I also like exploring.  The purpose of this activity is to identify why we we think that people explore without using Google.

Reflections Term 3 Week 5

This is Olympic activity (Synthesising) 17 I had to create my own Olympic uniform.

I liked it because I like being creative. I did this on a google doc. I'm most proud of my made up jersey.the thing I liked doing the most was making the jersey.  Next term I think I need to work on making it a wee bit more interesting and adding more details.

                       

This is my maths DLO. (Digital learning object). It is a tally of nz medals. I had to do lots and lots of long division. The thing I liked the most was doing the percentages and decimals. I did this on a google slide.
I did this activity to learn division. I'm most proud of the bronze slide.

Reflections Week 4 Term 3

 

Here is my Olympic stadium. I chose soccer because soccer is my favorite sport.

This is something that m1 had to do it is birthday party planing! we

started with $150 I spent $96.6.

I had to use 5 colors per word.

I have finished my monster poem I have made this on google slides you can watch this by putting your mouse on the picture and clicking.  I have been away visiting family so I have not had much time to complete anything else but I really enjoyed this activity.

I have been a little bit unwell but I have managed to finish my maths follow-up.For example there were 6 boys in the volleyball team how much would it cost for each member to get a ball.( balls are $80 ) 6 times 80 = 480.I enjoyed it.
